Microsoft is reportedly testing a new way to recommend Edge browser in Windows 10

Ads or suggestions in Windows 10 have become a never-ending saga and while Microsoft still promotes its apps in the Store, the company is learning from its own mistakes. We recently reported that software giant was using a different approach to promote built-in Windows 10 feature that seems to be more fair-play for everyone.

Just like Google, Microsoft also promotes Windows 10’s default browser when you search for Chrome in Edge but it appears that the software giant is testing a new way to recommend Edge.

According to an unconfirmed report, Microsoft is testing a new popup to recommend Edge browser when installing a third-party web browser like Firefox. The recommendation shows up in Windows 10 October 2018 Update preview builds only, that means only a handful number of users are seeing the suggestion.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the recommendation shows up when go you to install Firefox or Chrome. The banner is apparently promoting Edge browser and its features. There’s a link just below the recommendation that lets you Turn off all suggestions in Windows 10, clearly showing that this is nothing more than a recommendation and not an ad per se.

It appears to be a test that is running for a limited set of Windows Insiders and Microsoft hasn’t activated it in the non-Insider builds.
